Goodbye Roy, What a legend!

If time was ever to stop, this would be the moment. Roy Keane leaves Manchester United. Take a step back and let it sink in. This has been the most trusted synonym in football history. Where should I start, how it all began? with then a record transfer of 3m from Nottingham Forest. Sir Alex recollects, “Since I saw him on his Forest Debut I said to myself: Manchester United must have him”. Or how he replaced the ever non replaceable Bryan Robson as the most influential player at Old Trafford?

Am not able find the words, this is the biggest football news for a long time. And for a devils fan, this is the worst news of all. Roy was this incredible dream; that you don’t want to wake up from. He was like this kiss, you know it’s going to end some time but pray sweet Jesus that it never stops. O my god, where do we go from here. It feels like am suddenly hundred years old. He was the most integral part of ManU. His twelve years has been the most dazzling of all. He is the best midfield of this generation, he kept everything together, and all of them here looked up to him for guidance. Sir Alex could have not expected a better captain to take this team a notch or two higher than anybody expected any football club could go. The effect he had on pitch was sensational, the control he had over the team was unique.

He added that missing element in the class of ‘92. When everyone was basking in the glory, he kept them rooted. The ball curling Becks, the swift moving Giggsy, the foot flashing Scholsy with nicky and the Neville brothers; we couldn’t have been this effective for this long, if not for Keano. I can’t believe, I’m writing everything in the past tense. We were hoping that he had at least another 2 seasons in him. And now can’t believe that, we won’t be seeing him in that red jersey anymore.

If time was ever to be reborn, this would be the moment. Nothing can last forever. Manchester United has offered him a testimony in recognition of his 12 ½ years Old Trafford and rightly so. But leave it at that. Lets not bring in the controversies; Sir Alex wouldn’t have let him go, if he thought this wasn’t for the best for both the team and Roy. You would need an impossible memory to count the no of times these two fought. Not because they loathed each other, it was out of a great passion for a singular cause. They had their differences but nothing could have happened to bring it to this. I’m pained by people who write to this effect. Even when his hardened critical remarks of the recent performance were taken of the air, Sir Alex showed it to his players to yet again inspire them. Look what we did! This is an end of an era. Its heart breaking, but this is also the start of a new one. Let’s bid farewell and move on, for the good of united.

Roy, we wish you all the best for your future. Let it bring only the finest in life. And hope you find your way back someday. We would always hold you closest to our hearts. And the memories, A! What memories you have given us, we would hold them dear. Roy is a Red Devil, through tick and thin. And hey! don’t start looking, there is only one Keano.

Come to think of it…

All these years I have maintained that there is nothing, if at all a very few something to worry about the way we were playing after the departure of David. And there was absolutely nothing alarming in the direction in which Manchester united was moving. Even after the commotion of the Glazer takeover, I was feeling confident as the presence of Sir Alex could very well nullify any negative effect the Glazer family could don upon the beautiful club.

But now am afraid that the reality that I was bolting deep under has started to make its presence felt. Am I crazy to call this season which has been one of the best starts to a campaign under Sir Alex, as a failure and a big reason to worry? Think hard, the clue was that, Sir Alex going all over the media setting goal marks to all his strikers. This team is very young but they are firing blanks. Look at it, one goal from the last three matches, no victory to account for. The red side of Manchester was always about attacking football. That’s the way we always played and that’s the only way we know to play. But things have changed. Our defense with the inclusion of Edwin has been spotless; we have just conceded one goal in eight matches this season. But our attack is laughable. Even with the 4-3-3 formation we struggled against both Villarreal and Liverpool. There was no venom in our strike.

Both the teams didn’t have anything in the offering. Villarreal were trying to take game to us, and did a good job in the first half. Just when we looked good, Rooney saw red and that was the end of the match. The first yellow was indeed harsh, but you can’t go and do that to a referee. I can see the anger in all this but isn’t your team more than your pride? What about the fans?

With Chelsea making it clear that they have one job and one job only, that’s to win as many trophies as possible. Joes Morinhno said before their match, that they were paid to deliver and not to entertain. I was just hoping that we could prove them wrong. We have done it 18 times and by god we did entertain. So I was hoping for a great match. It was the Red Devils against the Reds. But the whole match was such a dull. The 0-0 score line did reflect the show put on by two of the most successful clubs in Briton if not in the world. Liverpool was never there, Gerard and Luis Garcia were the only players on the Reds side who looked like hurting us. This could have been a great chance to put us back on track. There won’t be many games at Anfield which would have been this easy. But still we made a mockery of ourselves.

But the biggest worry is that, we didn’t have our experienced players down on the pitch and we struggled. Giggsy on bench, Gary injured, Roy not a hundred present. It did have a huge effect on the pitch. Scholsy looked like a lone warrior fighting for a lost cause. So this makes me wonder, if these high paid young guns have enough temperament? Rooney, Ronaldo, Smith, Fletcher, Kerien and Park have a huge talent, no doubt. They will be among the best in their own rights. But they fall a lot short when compared to the likes of the class of ’92. Smithy has great passion and commitment but can he be a Keano? Any complement to the wonder kid Wayne Rooney would be an understatement but he did throw the Villarreal match back at our face. I just hope that time and Sir Alex could close that gap. That’s the only ray of hope left, isn’t it? Not the foot flashing Ronaldo nor the over powering Rooney nor the master assassin Ruud can salvage us from this hell hole. It’s got to be the 70 year old knight.

I just hope he doesn’t give up on us yet. So I would just end this with a silent prayer to give him enough strength to pull us through this. As for the fans, come to think of it; one of the glories of the red devils is its fans. We would be patient; we would wait for ever if that’s what it takes. And when it comes, the success this club needs, we would break the hell loose.

I want to spread my wings and fly…

I want to spread my wings and fly

To soar across the sky

The whole world is mine

But I'm trapped inside

Words escape my mouth, with a cry

Why me o! Lord why?

Give a strong soul a weak heart

Which can love but never part

They say you work in mysterious ways

Ill call you a cheat, to your face.
